- 1987 – 1991 training as a communication electronics technician
- 1992 – 1994 further education at the upper vocational school in Bamberg
- 1994 – 1996 training as an architectural draftsman
- 1996 – 2000 studies in architecture at Coburg University
- 2000 – 2002 employment as an architect with SIAT in Erlangen and Master’s degree in Facility Management at the University of Applied Sciences Nuremberg (evening courses)
- Since 2003 freelance architect
- Since 2008 member of the Bavarian State Parliament
- Since 12.11.2018 State Minister in the Bavarian State Ministry of the Environment and Consumer Protection
